The challenge

In an international operating environment, technical information often lives in English-language operating manuals, maintenance instructions and electrical diagrams. When help is needed, the right passage must be found quickly, even when the user speaks another language.

What I built

I built a technical documentation assistant whose source material consists of the machine’s operating and maintenance manuals, electrical drawings and fault-diagnostics documentation. Customers can ask about maintenance intervals in their own language. The assistant explains the required actions, can direct them to order a part from the manufacturer and provides the correct contact details. Troubleshooting a warranty issue can also begin in the chat. Often the answer already exists in the documentation but has simply been overlooked.

Public Harvia demo

A separate demo illustrates the concept using a publicly available Harvia heater installation and operating manual. It demonstrates troubleshooting, safety distances, electrical information and asking the same question in different languages. It is not a Harvia service and contains no customer project material.

My role

I designed the use case and built the application: document structuring, chat interface, source references, language control and response testing. I also assess the customer’s existing documentation. Materials updated at different times can contain conflicts or outdated information, so they are reviewed, structured and converted into a format that AI can read reliably before becoming the assistant’s knowledge base.

Benefits and limits

The assistant speeds up information retrieval, reduces language barriers and makes extensive documentation practical. The same approach works for safety instructions, work instructions, quality manuals and onboarding material. It does not replace the original manual, an authorised professional or safety responsibility. Customer names, materials, interfaces and source code remain confidential.
